HAIR EXTENSIONS

I’ve been researching hair extensions and which to do, what is most affordable, and easiest to maintain. I read tons of blogs and got a variety of opinions. I have super thin, straight hair and having it long made it stringy so I recently chopped it to shoulder length and felt I needed a bit of volume. I wanted to write this to explain everything I would’ve wanted to know before getting them. Not many people get it for volume so here is my take on my tape-in hair extensions.

PROS:

The obvious...VOLUME! Since I have straight hair, it will only look full for half a day and then falls flat. Having this extra hair has allowed me to only blow dry my hair twice a week and use dry shampoo for the days in between. I used to wash my hair almost everyday to get it to look full. Not having to wash it so often has been such an advantage on the overall health of my hair.

Since they are taped in, they’re super light weight and attach to a chunk of my hair. The cost overall is amazing since the hair is reusable up to a year if you take good care of it and only needs to be redone every 8 weeks. Plus using them for volume means less packs which keeps the cost down. You can brush and style just as you normally would. I read online you need to be more careful but my hairstylist said no need. When your hair looks good, you feel good...let’s be real!

CONS:

The biggest thing I wasn’t prepared for was how itchy they can get. Maybe since it’s winter, it’s adding even more dryness. Another downside with them is not being able to add oils all over your hair, the oil will mess up the tape stickiness. Staying wet will also mess up the stickiness so you have to blow dry your hair right after a shower. It definitely required me to add a bit more effort into my hair.

The other downside is the way mine were placed I wasn’t able to put it in a high pony or bun without them showing (not my hairstylists fault, I didn’t know since it was my first time). Plus when you hit 7/8 weeks you will need to be a bit more conscious with how you brush and style since you will have a lot of your hair grown out.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

I love them! Despite the dryness which threw me off a bit. It’s super easy to maintain. I was nervous that I’d have to do a lot of work to keep them looking good after reading tons of blogs. It adds enough to be noticeable without looking like ok that’s not your hair.

The cost is super reasonable. I bought two packs of Donna Bella 100% Remy human hair 12” tape-in extensions. There’s over 27 colors to choose from. I have one pack of light ash and one pack of light ash/blond. I am getting them redone because I was so happy with them! Oddly enough they are a bit wavy so I get some free texture if I let the ends air dry which I’m not mad about! 100% recommend if you are interested in getting them. My experience was so far from what I was reading and I’m so happy I got them.
